How Thick is a Piece of Paper?

Following discussion on a Facebook group, I decided to find out what my actual Z offset gap is and ordered a set of feeler gauges.

0.05mm

But there’s a problem: the feeler gauges are protected from rust by a thin film of oil, so I expect I have contaminated the print bed in the process

Re: Why Are They Using Facebook???

Good arguments.

I'll stick around on FB and try to drive people this way!

Why Are They Using Facebook???

My interest is the Tina2, so I am monitoring the Tina2 user groups on Facebook. What happens over there is somebody has a problem and posts a question (often without much in the way of a video to show what's happening, or even photos) and expects an informed answer. What they usually get is people s...

Re: Tina2 Tweaks & Mods

Just in case it helps anybody: the Tina2 manual says the maximum size of microSD card is something like 8GB, but I am currently successfully using a 128GB card (8GB cards are hard to find!).

I'm not certain it would be able to access the whole card, but it certainly works for a few files.

Re: Design and Print Without A PC

It turns out I might have been able to slice on-line using AstroPrint. It's not obvious, but I have spotted in YouTube videos a download option for the slicer results rather than only being able to send them to a fab.

Re: Octoprint

I've been wondering about it, as I have several RPis at my disposal. I am only a short way into my preliminary investigations, but so far as I can gather it is a means to add smart facilities to dumb 3D printers. There are some nice summaries of what to expect: https://all3dp.com/2/reasons-to-use-oc...

Re: Design and Print Without A PC

Another online CAD program to try is Fusion360 - yeah I know it is by one of those software companies you love to hate, but it may get you to your goal easier than TinkerCAD. Both by AutoDesk. Yes, I agree Fusion might be more appropriate for engineering models, but I was pleased to sample TinkerCA...

Design and Print Without A PC

I usually use FreeCAD and Cura on a Linux PC, but I'm away for the Christmas break visiting family and brought my Tina2 with me with the intention of printing some pre-prepared models. However, I also got a hankering to design something, and wondered whether it would be possible using just an iPad a...

Re: Tina2 Anatomy & Repair

Somebody on one of the Facebook Tina2 groups has posted a video of their Tina2 printing all the layers on a slant. When I requested further information, it turned out the bed levelling calibration only did the first pass (but it presumably had always done that so they didn’t know it was incomplete)....

What is the Skirt Setting For?

I’m trying to get my head around the various options in Cura (and presumably apply to other slicers). In Bed Adhesion, there are choices of none, raft, brim, and skirt. Raft I understand, and this seems to be the most reliable but also means the underside of the printed object needs some clean-up. I...
