Welcome to the world of endless enthusiasm :)

There are several options. I use TinkerCAD which is easy to pick up. Completely free to use:

Re: Newbie software issues

I've never used an ender, however the general consensus seems positive. I can't unfortunately help with Mac, however Cura is available for Mac my use of the Windows version gives me positive vibes, and being free that would be a good start: https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura I suggest you...

Congratulations!

It may help if you advised the printer type. Whilst slicers are pretty generic, some printers can be fussy.

Re: Too poor to buy cheap- getting what you pay for

you definitely get what you pay for. To be honest I'm not in full agreement with that synopsis. Undoubtedly there ARE crap products out there, but I'm loathe to tar them all with the same brush. They are after all trying to make a profit, and if that means they shave some corners then I'm generally...

Re: Newby advice which printer

I agree with iDig3DPrinting, you won't get a lot for 300 bucks. However that's not terribly important if you are dipping your toe in the water. I can vouch for the Creality CR-10S (NOT THE CR-10, without the S). It's heated bed will struggle to get over 90 degrees which means ABS isn't a realistic f...

Re: Thicker layer offset

Cura is a good option and I know it has the config you need. I would try to figure out why it won't work. However I had problems with Cura 15 - so I suggest you try Cura v2:
