Hi @Spitfire, Yes electronics can be a nightmare and very fiddly but as you have said it generally comes down to research. It appears that Makerbot are in legal trouble over whether they new about the failings of the original release of their Smart extruder.
Do you have a Makerbot replicator that employs the Smart extruder? What are you experiences? If you had problems how did you get around it?

I think just wait for the flood of similar services. There is a large market opening up of 3D printed likeness making. If you look at the fuel3d scanify there entire marketing is based upon scanning peoples faces.
