Filament for food products

Hi there

Im new to 3D printing and just had a few questions as i am a total newbie!

I know that the 3D printers use a PLA filament, so is this suitable to make things like cookie cutters and embossing stamps, or is there a different material i should use for this?

Secondly, do 3D printers give off any fumes? I have a laser cutter which requires a separate extraction unit to vent fumes, and also needs to be in a well ventilated area. Is this the case with 3D printers, or is ok to put it in your home office for example?
