What is the a strong, simple, out of the bottle. readily available solution for joining PLA parts together?

Hi.
I've found the solvent Airfix modellers use is very effective. I bought a 57ml bottle from my local model shop for £3, and apply it with a natural hair brush to both surfaces then join immediately with a little pressure while the solvent evaporates. It then takes a little longer for the PLA to harden fully.
The version I have is "Plastic Weld" by "E.M.A. Model Supplies".
OK, so that might not count as "readily available" if you don't have a convenient model shop (and who does these days?). Another option is the gel plumbers use for jointing PVC pipes ("Pipe Weld") – it works, but I am less keen on it.
