Tina2 vs Tina2S

Post by KenW »

I've acquired a broken Tina2S on the cheap. It appears to have the usual problem with the proximity sensor (to be confirmed when a new one gets delivered).

Mechanically, it's pretty much the same as a Tina2. Differences versus original Tina2:
  • Internal LED illumination.
  • Heated bed.
  • Sprung metal removable plate (magnetic?) replaces magnetic rubber plate.
  • Z axis linear bearings are now two sleeves instead of one long tube.
  • No full-width finger guard, just a small unobtrusive guard covering the heater block and nozzle from inadvertent contact.
  • Very quiet motors.
The advertising makes a big deal of an upgraded controller board, so I presume the controller is using some kind of more sophisticated drive to the stepper motors which make them smoother and therefore quieter - not that I've tried printing anything yet, these were just auto-home and z calibration operations.

The guard is a much better idea; it doesn't protect the moving parts from little fingers (where there was little danger anyway), but also isn't in the way thus prompting permanent removal.
