Tina2S Bed Levelling Issue

Post by KenW »

A new proximity sensor "fixed" the Tina2S I acquired (in that it now sort-of works), but there remains a problem: although it goes through the 3-point pre-print levelling, and although I can see the Z axis lead screw making adjustments as the nozzle moves in XY, it doesn't seem to be making sufficient/correct adjustment.

The effect is that the first layer is thick on the right hand side and thin to non-existent on the left (the nozzle nearly scrapes through the tape). I never saw this happen with my Tina2.

If/when I find a solution I'll let you know.

Why would that be? If the gantry were not level, that would read the same as the bed not being level, and be calibrated out just the same.

I don't see how.

When the bed levelling operation senses the position of the bed, it can't tell the difference between the bed and the X gantry – all it knows is the Z displacement when the proximity sensor triggers. The plane of the bed as measured in the printer's XYZ space (not necessarily physical XYZ space) is then subtracted from the target Z as the head tracks the target X and the bed tracks Y.

It's all quite clever and eliminates the need for X or Y to be perfectly orthogonal to Z.

I have not got around to investigating this further, but I have no good ideas how to diagnose the problem. I'm still using my Tina2S for anything serious.
